to offer something of a variety in terms of the customers that we
serve. At Avanti
Express we
have built a reputation for specialising in furniture from carpets and
sofas to wardrobes and beds. This month we highlight a couple of
variations on the furniture theme and then something completely
different.

B.
Sternberg &
Sons is a family business that produces and supplies plain, patterned
and printed material. The extensive product range covers all types of
fabrics, including; Crepes, Voils, Polyester's, Taffeta's, Sequin
Fabrics, Organza's, Linen's, Suitings, Velvets, PVC, Imitation Suede's,
Net, Embroidered Fabrics, Satin's and Lycra, to name just a few. In
2007 the company celebrated it's centenary year, 100 years of
successful trading, built on 100 years of experience.
B.Sternberg & Sons head office has always been based and
operated from Manchester, the city where two hundred years ago the
world's textile industry began. It is the place where the world's very
first commercial textile mill was created and to this day, is a city
steeped in a rich history of textile and fabric evolution. In addition
to the office, warehouse and distribution network in the UK, the
company also has many agents worldwide and is extremely keen to expand
the business further into new and emerging markets and territories.
The UK
operation extends
to five warehouse sites incorporating design, offices, sales and
distribution facilities totalling over 40,000 sq ft. This allows
B.Sternberg & Sons to stock and supply an extensive range of
fabrics, furnishings and textiles and provide the flexibility to
accommodate and process all types of volume fabric orders that any
clients require.
The combination of over 100 years of trading experience and facilities,
backed up by their team of dedicated and experienced employees enables
B.Sternberg & Sons to provide the right service to their valued
clients.
The service that Avanti offers
B.Sternberg & Sons is quite specialised due to the size and
weight of the large fabric rolls and the ease with which the fabric can
be damaged. Many of the rolls are 4.5m long and therefore don't fit in
a standard van. Avanti's extensive
fleet and experienced drivers give us the ability to handle smaller,
local deliveries and larger national orders requiring 15 tonne trucks.
The rolls are collected from the Manchester warehouse for delivery all
around the UK from Essex to Scotland and every one delivered on time
and in perfect condition.

Kay-Metzeler
Sports
Products a Division of Vita Cellular Foams (UK) ltd., manufacture a
wide range of safety matting for the physical education and leisure
industry markets. Kay-Metzeler and Avanti
Express enjoy
a commercial relationship to ensure orders are delivered on time.
Kay-Metzeler
produce a
wide range of products including gym mats, safety mattresses, high jump
and pole vault beds and martial arts products. A network of
catalogue companies and Regional Public Buying Consortiums form the
main customer base. Many of these orders are consolidated
by Avanti for
collection and delivery throughout the UK.
September has been a busy time with schools back with new budgets to
spend and even some newly built schools requiring large quantities of
sports equipment for their initial fit out. Staff at Avanti have
been working hard for Kay-Metzler in recent weeks due to buoyant sales
but have always maintained the high service levels expected. The
operations team has always made sure that the schools are contacted
ahead of time to agree a time slot that doesn't conflict with other
activities. Sophisticated route planning in the office and unequalled
levels of conscientiousness by our drivers ensure that the agreed time
slot is achieved. Not all schools have caretakers available so our
drivers are always prepared to deliver to wherever the equipment needs
to go.
