Job Prospects are good for Avanti

October is the season of mists and mellow fruitfulness. It is also the season when approximately half a million students head to university and Avanti Express deliver 138 tonnes of careers directories on behalf of Graduate Prospects to 236 universities throughout the UK and Eire in just two weeks.

This year the directories were printed in Poland and arrived by truck at our warehouse in Manchester for the beginning of October. Each careers directory is the size of a telephone directory and comes in a pack of five for delivery. Smaller institutions such as the School of Oriental and African Studies take a single pack whilst the London School of Economics takes 150 packs!

Despatch coordinators at Avanti contacted each careers office in advance to arrange a delivery time and the driver then had to adhere closely to his slot. Deliveries were made to the careers office which was often up flights of stairs and our drivers did this job unassisted. The larger metropolitan deliveries took up to an hour to complete within a tight time window and at the other end of the scale drivers sometimes helped the careers office staff put the directories onto the shelves in the office.

The whole schedule took 8 drivers 10 days to fulfil, working every day. This demanding project was completed on time and Avanti are proud to say that there wasn't a single complaint. Not even the roadworks outside York or the congestion in WC1 could stop us.

Avanti helped minimise the effects of the postal strike

During the recent postal strike Avanti were delighted to be able help both new and existing customers with important deliveries that would otherwise have been delivered by Royal Mail. Deliveries that we made included:

° Import documentation including a bankers draft from Birmingham to Manchester

° Healthcare product samples picked up from Manchester on Friday evening and delivered to East Anglia.
